I believe that Arthur Schopenhauer is trying to say is that we can create anything beautiful from the soul core of our hearts and minds but first we must sit and think til we hear the soul of the arts speak to us so we can describe it in any form or way to show to the world that art is a living and breathing thing and that it is all around us and we see it everyday.

We need to study what impresses and inspires us in order to think up our own original concept. The poetry inside their art is understandable the more we TRY to understand it instead of just not even trying.

I believe he means that if you think what you draw, therefore draw what you see, it gives you a different out look on what you've gotta actually draw and the type of technique that you are doing.
i think Schopenhauer was trying to make a clever little joke saying that art was like polite behavior. where as you don't paint until you know what to paint. or the canvas "speaks to you". and in polite behavior you must not speak to someone until they say something to you. he was attempting a clever little joke.

What he said was hardly cryptic; he is essentially saying that Good art is like good people, and that you should simply respect and learn from it. I suppose he could also sort of be saying to look up to art, in a sort of "don't get discouraged, but inspired" sort of way.

Maybe he is trying to say that you can relate yourself with a piece of art. It doesn't have to be like drawing art it could be like music.SO i would say that in life you can relate an event or something to art that can give you a different prospective of life.
What he was trying to say is that paintings already have a pre existing meaning within them, so we shouldn't try to guess what it means, we should let it come to us, and if it doesn't who cares we all have our opinions and thats okay.
