Shadow Sculptures

Tim Noble and Sue Webster are a dynamic duo based out of the UK. Using everyday things including rubbish, they've taken the idea of assemblages to a new level of transformative art. The sculptures use everything from trash to bones; one of them is even constructed from 34 taxidermied animals including 6 rats, 1 mink, 8 carrion crows, 8 rooks, and 11 jackdaws. Gruesomely awesome.

Contemporary Artist of the Week:

The Fantasy Art of Anna Dittmann

Annita Dittmann grew up in San Francisco and moved to Georgia to receive a BFA in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design.  Her Dreamy, fantastical illustrations capture an incredibly sensitive world of magic and shifting spring.  Dittmann's grip on the digital medium is extraordinary and serves her themes of fantasy illustration perfectly.

Contemporary Artist of the Week:

Map Painting of Fernando Vicente

Madrid-based Spanish artist Fernando Vicente uses maps for more than geographical purposes. For his Atlas series, the creative illustrator paints on old maps, transforming countries and whole continents into people, animals, and skulls. The collection of acrylic paint portraits applied and integrated into each map, similar to the work of Ed Fairburn, gives the lands a new sense of life.

While cartography can be seen as an art in its own right, Vicente manages to transform each informative sheet into an interpretive piece. The images he adds to the maps are translucent enough to recognize the underlying contours of nations and the separation between ocean and land while simultaneously appreciating the artist's ability to connect masses of land into one unified figure. His work presents an organic vision of the world, as though countries are not disconnected from one another and share a spirit guardian.

Class Wish

Teachers face it every day: lack of funding and devastating budget cuts leave most schools without the supplies teachers need to help children explore their potential and excel.
Too often, dedicated teachers end up spending hundreds of dollars of their own money on classroom materials, and it's still not enough.

ClassWish, an exciting new nonprofit, offers a simple alternative:
* Teachers visit the site to create a Wish List of the things they need to equip great classrooms, as easily as shopping online
* ClassWish lets parents and other supporters see exactly what is needed and how they can help
* Contributions are tax-deductible
* ClassWish sends the supplies to teachers at the school

The result? Teachers get the support they need. Parents and communities are engaged in supporting classrooms. And everyone is united in helping our children learn, grow and perform at their best.
See how easy it is to get the things you and your students need at

Thank You!

We made it through the rain with smiles!
A very special thank you goes out to all the students that participated in the Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade Saturday Night. Even though the storm hit us hard, they kept smiling and waving at what was left of the crowd. As for the band, I admire your courage for continuing to play without missing a beat throughout the chaos of the evening.

I would also like to thank all the teachers, parents and students that helped us put it all together.  We could not have done it without your help.

Looking at Contemporary Art

What is contemporary art?

Contemporary Art is art produced at the present point in time. Some art museums and collections define contemporary art as including all art since the end of World War II more specifically since 1945.

Look at the painting below and answer the following questions. **Remember: You must use complete sentences with correct punctuation! **

Ling Jian, Suspension in Melancholy

 1. Does the portrait display an attitude: calm, arrogance,      intelligence, humor? Why?

2.  Do you think the artist has tried to flatter the model, or would you consider the portriat not-so flattering, yet perhaps more revealing of the person's inner personality? Why?
