Cardboard Everyday Objects!

After introducing my 7th grade art students to British Artist, Chris Gilmour, I challenged them to create everyday objects using cardboard. The students were stumped at first, but once they got the hang of it, they ran with the project, adding details to their objects that I was not expecting. I am so proud of my students!

Fiesta Wreaths

Last semester the JMS Art Club created five Fiesta Wreaths out of what would be considered "Fiesta Trash" with Mary Cantu of Spare Parts. The kids had a blast digging through all the materials and constructed some really creative designs that are on exhibit at The Carver Community Cultural Center in San Antonio, TX. Other creative contributors of this exhibit were Eric Cavazos, Longfellow Middle School, Maker Mama, Marshall High School, and RVK Architects.

If you have not had a chance to see the 18 Fiesta Wreaths on Exhibit, you still have time.  The exhibition closes on May 1.

Larger Than Life Shoes!

I challenged my 7th & 8th grade students to create a larger than life sculpture of a shoe using cardboard, based on the work of Claes Oldenburg.  The students created emphasis in their sculptures by placing attention to detail, craftsmanship, and proportion.
